Custom numbering

I need column A to sequentially number...not so hard until I throw in that the number is hyphenated and only the first part needs to sequence. I've searched until my eyes fell out and rolled onto the floor. Please help!

ex:

0001-2014
0002-2014
0003-2014
0004-2014

Go to format cells, then choose custom number format,

Enter 0000"-2014"

Then in the cell you will only enter "1". "2" and so on,
do not enter 2014.

Another option:

Enter 0001-2014 in cell A1

Then in A2 enter the formula: =TEXT(LEFT(A1,4)+1,"0000")&"-2014" and copy down.

Dude...you're awesome! I've been trying to get this done for a year and no one could come up with the answer. I've been trying out tons of custom formats to no avail until now! Problem solved! Even works with "fill the series"!
