Hi
My computer date setting is mm/dd/yyyy. So I selected a cell and then I went custom format--> dd/mm/yyyy.
But when I entered 13/1/2018 excel did not take it as a date/number, it kept it in the left hand side of the cell.

But when I enter the date as 1/13/2018 excel will accept it as date and change it to 13/1/2018.

Do that mean custom format does not over write system date settings? It only changes the date after entering the date that match the system settings formatts. But if you enter the date following custom format then excel will not accept it. Am I right?

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
Custom format does not change anything, other than what you see in the cell.
If you look at the formula bar the date will still be mm/dd/yyy regardless of what date format you use
