Current date formula for dd.mm.yyyy

Formula result must be ...
eg 14.07.2010

Tried but does not work ...
=DATE(day.month.year)
=DATE(dd.mm.yyyy)

Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
