Is there a formula in excel that converts currencies? If not, is there any way for a cell to lookup data for a currency based on a particular date?

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
its purely a multiplication / division value (IMHO) if you format the cells with the currency symbol, you could create something specific for your needs. Depending on where you get your real world daily currencies from will affect the outcomes (bureau de change would be bad)
