Cumulative sum based on a dimension that is not "date/time" related?

Is it possible to have a running total in a powerpivott table based on a dimension that is non time related? Whenever I search cumulative sum, it seems to always involve cumulation on a time dimension. To complicate things, the measure is a COUNTDISTINCT() measure, but it is "summable" along the dimension I want to acumulate.

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Dave,

What is the dimension you want to accumulate on?

It must have a natural order for a cumulative approach to work - the obvious answer is to use this order to append a numerical indicator to the dimension and use that in the same way you would a calendar.

Happy to take a closer look if you want to flesh out some of the details.
