I'm new to Mr Excel but I've just tried out the CSE formulae (array formulae). Very impressed, but two questions:
1 - Is there a maximum size of array that Excel will handle?
2 - Is it possible to use an array across a range of worksheets?

Any help gratefully received.

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
1. The physical limits of the worksheet, but some functions that handle arrays have their own limits (consult Help).
2. No.

Hi JC3

Be careful with array formulas they can be a trap that renders your Workbook virtually unusable! They slooowww down Excels re-calculation to a crawl if you have too many. Have a look at the Excel help of the "Database functions" these are far superior and are desinged to do what most unwary users use array formulas for.

They most certainly do have some contraints which I list here:

JC3, array formulae are quite powerful and useful. I'm glad to see that you're taking the time to understand them.
