 This is driving me insane! Help restore my sanity. I've followed through the pivot table blah, but it just messes up my data. I just want it to auto sum (automatically) every time I add a new figure in a given column.

Excel Facts

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
WELCOME TO THE BOARD!

Here's a simple formula you can use, however, it cannot be in the same column:

=SUM(A:A)

Hmmm, thanks for the reply however I really need to go back to school with excel. I look at the work I did so many years ago & it doesn't mean a thing! Only need to have intermediate excel back in three days. Eeeek!

SUBSCRIPTIONS DUE
BAL
DATE SOURCE AMOUNT £11274.47
01/05/03 xxxxxxx £19.87
24/04/03 xxxxxxx £21.47
01/04/03 xxxxxxx £19.82

Still floundering.

Each time I enter an amount in column C, I want it to automatically deduct from the BAL in column D. Rather than having to enter a function each time. Any ideas thanks.

Why not just incorporate the suggestions from above? For your sample data, enter this formula in cell D3 (for example):

11335.63-sum(C:C)

Or:

D1-sum(C:C)

where D1 houses the original balance.

Hi Acalia

Try this in the following cells or cells of your choice.

In cell J3 enter the start Bal 11335.63

In cell K3 enter =SUM(C:C)

In cell D3 enter =$J$3-$K$3
(now each value entered into col C will be deducted from the Bal in D3)

Is this what you are looking for?
