Creating Menus

Hi,

I downloaded the html maker for Excel and it added another menu to the toolbar at the top next to Window.

I was curious, is there a way of making my own menus and putting my own options on it, and how would I go about it?

The html maker uses an xla file to install itself, how do I make them or edit them to make my own?

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
Thanks for that link.

It helps but unfortunately the file you download has to be open all the time.

Is there a way of adding menus without having to open a certain file all the time?

The file you download from that page is simply an example.

All you need to do is create a sheet and copy the macros to *your* workbook to use it :)

A menu has to be connected to some code. If it is not, it won't do anything!

That code has to be in some workbook that has to be open (or better yet in an add-in that has to be loaded). So, the addin can contain the code to create the menu as well as the code associated with the menu.

Thanks for the help guys and gals!

I was hoping to be able to make an add-in but was unsure how to do it.

Has anyone got any links to a tutorial on how to make one, or could someone try and explain please?

I'm just trying to put all my essential things on a menu like the file menu, rather than having to waste time looking for them.

Thanks!

I've managed to make a menu that comes on when opening up by saving the menu amker file in XLStart in the Office folder in Program Files.

If you save it there and hide the workbook it's as though there is just another menu.

There is an annoying message which pops up every time but I can live with that.

I'm still curious as to how I can make a "real" menu instead of the one I have.
