Creating a chart in excel

Hi,

i'm a very new user at excel and forums, so please be patient with me.

I do reading tests, and would like to graph the results, I have a sheet with the name of the student on top with what text being tested on, which i guess will be the title of the chart, i then have the the date tested, how long it took to read the text eg: 1:04 (1 minute 4 seconds), and the amount of mistakes eg: 4 (4 mistakes) I then review the same text a few days later and again record the same data, please help me graph this for parents to see their childrens approvement.

my thoughts are the dates will be at the bottom the times at the left with a line coming from the left and number of mistakes on the right with a line coming from the right?

even if this is correct i will still need step by step instructions how to do this.

Welcome to the Board!

It sounds like you need a Magnitude chart, which allows you to display disparate data sets on two axes. In this case I'd imagine that you could use completion time as a column chart on the primary axis, and mistakes as a line chart on the secondary axis. If you want to post a shot of your sheet (see the link in my sig), someone can probably mock up an example for you. Or you can PM me your address and I'll send you an example.

Note that you'll want to communicate your e-mail address via the Private Message feature, and not post it directly on the board, where it's a spam target (on this and any other public forum).

Thank you for your sample Magnitude chart.

As you suggested I'll post one childs' real results, and if someone can send me through a sample of how to enter it correctly in to excel to create Magnitude chart.
