For some reason this very simple formula that I've been using forever isn't working and I can't figure out why. I have a list of registrations that I've sent invites to and when someone accepts or declines, I mark it on my sheet with YES or NO. My formula for NO works perfectly fine, the one for YES refuses to count. The formulas are =countif(L2:L44,"YES") and =countif(L2:L44,"NO"). Why would NO work but not YES? I tried changing formatting of the cells to various ones but that didn't do anything.

What version of Excel are you using?

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Check that the cells with "Yes" do not have any leading/trailing spaces.

Solution
🤦‍♂️ I feel so dumb right now. I checked for leading spaces but didn't check for trailing. I must have hit the space bar for some reason when I typed YES and when I typed other ones, I let excel fill it in from the suggestion so it copied it over and over. Thanks for the profile tip, I've added that now.
