Office Version
  1. Prefer Not To Say
In. Boxes. 4

How would I write a formula to count the number of boxes on a cover page. Now there are going to be different things to count so I can't just do a simple equation. If that makes sense. Cause the in and boxes is going to change

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
What exactly do you mean by boxes? Are you using VBA Forms or Form Controls?
Can you show us a few screen prints of what you are talking about?

Does this help
Boxes is going to change as it is a material type and I have a bunch of material types and the in can change to out

Well, I can see that they really are not boxes of any sort, but just shaded cells.

But it is not quite clear exactly what it is you are trying to count.

Can you actually walk us through an example with some made up data, and show us what you are expecting/wanting to see?

So I work in shipping and receiving and this is the tracker I use to track what comes in and out I want to create a cover page that tracks how many boxes parts and other materials that both come in and out

So, based on your example, what exactly should that cover sheet show in this case?
Remember, we have no idea what your business is, or what you are trying to accomplish/show.
So explain it like you are explaining it to someone who knows nothing about this, and show/tell us what you expect to see if this works the way you like.

There really are multiple parts here to asking a good, complete question that allows us to help you.
1. Showing us an example of the data and structure you are working with.
2. Showing us your desired output.
3. Explain the connection between 1 and 2, if it is not obvious (if you show a complete example, many times it will become obvious without an explanation).

Also, you did not list which version of Office you are using. Please let us know that because newer versions of Excel have new functionality that can help simplify many tasks.

So this will be a running total for the month
Column a if I unload a truck I would in
Column f is what material type it is boxes, pallets trucks etc
Column h is how many boxes came in

So over a given month there are going to be multiple entries for boxes and other material types I want be able to count those all individually that come in on this spreadsheet

I cannot really help you if you don't answer my questions and show us what you want us to build.

- Show us what you want this Cover Page to look like, and use the values from your example so we can see the correlation between your data and the summarized results.
- Let us know which version of Excel you are using.

If you do not answer these exact questions, I am afraid there is nothing I can do for you.
