Hi,
Is it possible to apply countif formula from a closed workbook?

I have one open excel workbook Data.xls which has emp id in cell A2 of sheet1. Another excel workbook name Conso.xls is in a shared drive folder which has emp ids in column B.
I want to check how many times one emp id is there in Conso.xls

When both files are open formula is working fine but as soon as i close Conso.xls it throws #VALUE error.

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
No, you need to replace it with something like a SUMPRODUCT formula ( there should be numerous examples on the forum). Make sure not to use entire column references.
