I'm trying to count how many cells in my column have data and for some reason, the formula keeps giving me 0, even though there are many cells with numbers and characters in them. My sheet has around 4,000 rows so I'm wondering if the large amount of data might be why? I tried it on just a few of the cells and it worked fine but for some reason, when I select the whole column, it counts 0 cells.

Here's my formula: =COUNTA(A:A)

Any help on this would be appreciated

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.

Nevermind, I realized that it worked if used the formula outside of the column cells.
