I have a range of cells with numbers them 1,1,1,2,3,1,3,3,1,1,1,

Its a long story but is there a way of counting the number of 3's without using countif - preferably with some way using simple sum formulas.

I'm am using this for a 'solver' problem and solver doesn't like countif.

thanks

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
you can use an array formula with sum and if. =sum(if(Range=3,1,0)) and ctrl+shift+enter

Hi
thanks that a clever solution but I think any 'array' or 'if' formula is out too.

I may be asking for the impossible but I think it will require a cumbersome formula using lots of basic sum formulas
