I am trying to determine the number of people (List of Employees) on vacation based on their vacation start date and end date (Employee Leave Tracker). I need to account for each day of the year and ensure a certian percentage is not absent. I have tried:

=COUNTIFS('Employee Leave Tracker'!$C:$C,">="&DATE(18,8,1),'Employee Leave Tracker'!$D:$D,"<="&DATE(2018,8,1))

But it comes up with zero every time. This seems like a painful way to do it since i have to do it for 365 days and it doesn't work anyway. I have tried a if-and function but it didnt work either. Sorry if I didnt post this right. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

In A2:

Code:
=COUNTIFS('Employee Leave Tracker'!$C:$C,"<="&A$1,'Employee Leave Tracker'!$D:$D,">="&$A1)

Thank you for the qucik reply. I tried the suggested formula and it seems to work as it counts up but doesn't change once the employee has passed the return date.

Oops. I anchored the column not the row. Change A2 to this then copy across:

Code:
=COUNTIFS('Employee Leave Tracker'!$C:$C,"<="&A$1,'Employee Leave Tracker'!$D:$D,">="&A$1)
