Hi,

I have a column of records. Some start with the character "U" and some with "V".

I want to count if the starting character is "U" vs. "V". How do I do that in a single formula? I want to avoid using "IF(LEFT(A1 = "U",1,0)" for every record.

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
What version of Excel are you using?

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Maybe
Excel Formula:
=COUNTIFS(A:A,"U*")
