I'm trying to figure out this guy's federal tax withholding calculator, but aside from the marginal tax rate, I don't understand where he's getting the numbers for the Base Tax or whatever the column to the left of it is.
He's using 2008 tables, and here's the current tables (page #44) to compare by, but his primer just gives out the numbers without really explaining where he got them or what they mean.
Could someone take a look his all-in-one table and explain to me how the columns relate to the current (or past) tax tables, please? My mind is fried trying to figure it out. I'm sure it's simple and a "can't see the forest for the trees" sort of thing, but I'd appreciate the help, nonetheless.
