Copyright Symbol

My question is how do I prevent Excel from converting (r) to the copyright symbol? If you enter (r) into a cell, it will automatically convert it to (r). If you copy (r) from a notepad cell, paste it into a spreadsheet, it will stay (r). But if you edit the cell, it will then convert it to the copyright symbol.

It's a long story on the why, but I'm sure the answer will solve other questions I have.

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
Go to tools autocorrect, locate and highlight this (second line on mine), and hit the delete key.
