Hi,

I know this must be a simple answer,

I have the following cell D5 = A5, and E5 = A6.

I want to be able to drag these down so D6 = A7 and E6 = A8 and so on down.

Obviously i am dragging and getting D6 = A6 and E6 = A7.

what is the solution?

Thanks

J

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
In D5 copied down and across

=OFFSET(A5,ROW()-5,0)

Explanation:
Need to increase the row number by 2 each time we go down one row
- the usual filling down increases it by 1and the offset increases by a further 1

In D5
A5 is offset by 0 rows [ ROW(A5) - 5 ]
In D6
A5 has become A6 and is offset by 1 row [ ROW(A6) - 5 ]
In D7
A5 has become A7 and is offset by 2 rows [ ROW(A7) - 5 ]
