Hi

I've searched the forum and can't find this addressed - sorry if it's already been answered.

I have a range of columns, B to E, where the colour of (eg) B5, C5, D5 and E5 are dependent on the contents of E5. I've got 12 conditions defined, and they are working well. (eg =$E5="ABSENT").

If I want to copy the conditional formatting to the next 4 columns, and have the colour determined by the contents of column I, is there a way to do this easily? I've got 40 sets of 4 columns, and I haven't worked out a better way than pasting the formats, than editing each of the 12 rules (39 times!)

Thanks in advance!

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Well, I would suggest

do it step wise.

1) Just do copy and paste formats for single cell in each column and edit your condi formating
2) then copy and paste for the entire respective column / columns.

by doing so you have to do the changes only once for each column.

Thanks for the answer

If I select the entire column and make the changes, does that achieve the same result?

Does your solution still require 12 formulas to be changed 39 times each?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I don't think I've understood your solution.
