Question: i have a column of numbers (a1 to a40) with no function added to them just a sort of tally system for different products, how do i copy a list of numbers from a different sheet and paste that over top the already existing list (a1 to a40) and have it "added" instead of simply pasted over and erasing the data i already compiled?

i.e if a cell has the number 5 and i paste a 8 over it i want it to read 13 instead of pasting the 8 over the 5.

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Ctrl + C -> Ctrl + Alt + V -> Add

Welcome to the MrExcel board!

Same thing but if you prefer mouse/menu options, after you copy the new numbers and select A1 ready to paste ..
Home ribbon tab -> Drop-down arrow below Paste --> Paste Special ... -> Add (in Operation section) -> OK

.. or instead of the red steps above after selecting A1, right click and choose Paste Special ..
