So, this is likely a super basic question. I have done some digging and keep failing...

Need... it is an accounting file and i am filtering transactions for specific allocations so i don't have to jump around in the allocation columns. Whenever i copy the filtered values from column "C" and try to paste them in another column (in this case "S" for business supplies), it never works. I have tried a bunch of things, and tried some youtube videos. But no luck... I am hoping the experts here can help me.

If not thanks ether way.

Michael.

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Welcome to the Board!

If you are just trying to populate column S with values from column C based on certain conditions, why not just use formulas instead (in column S)?
If you provide us with the details/rules, we may be able to help you come up with the formula you need.

Thank you for the kind welcome!

I am not that advanced with formula's.

What i am doing is filtering all of a specific expense item in column B (for example meals/entertainment) and then want to copy them over to the correct column. And using the ctrl-c and ctrl-v doesn't work because the cells are filtered in the description column. Just try to save a bunch of typing and transposition errors.

You wouldn't need any advanced formula, just a simple one should do it.

For example, let's say that you wanted to copy the value from column C to column S over if column B is "THE HOME DEPOT #7164 BRACEBRIDGE".
Then you could put this formula in cell S4 and copy down for all rows in column S.
Excel Formula:
=IF(B4="THE HOME DEPOT #7164 BRACEBRIDGE",C4,"")

If you are trying to filter on multiple values at once, you could create a lookup table, and do something like this (let's assume the values we want to match on in column B are listed in cells Z1:Z10).
Formula for S4:
Excel Formula:
=IF(COUNTIF($Z$1:$Z$10,B4)>0,C4,"")
