Copy and paste contra copy and paste special

When I mark some cells (a table) in an Excel file, copy it and then try to paste it to a Word document; I sometimes get the opportunity ”paste special” which I want, but sometimes I only get ”paste”.

I cannot find out why I sometimes only get ”paste”. Does anyone have an answer how to ensure that I get the ”paste special”?
