Hi there,

Following is a custom Msgbox Class. It is actually entirely based on the standard MsgBox but offers so much more control such us colors,fonts,timer...etc

What is nice about this custom MsgBox is that once you create a new instance of the class it is very easy to set all its attributes taking advantage of the VBE IntelliSense.

Be careful if you ever decide to edit the Class as it was a nightmare editing\debugging the code.( In so doing I crashed the App so many times that I've actually lost count :-D :evil: ) - So, ensure you save your work !

One nice missing feature is to be able to make the MsgBox Modeless.Unfortunately, I just can't seem to make it work...maybe someday or someone will find the solution :)

I have only tried the code in XL2002 so I am not sure if it will work for other versions.

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
Well downloaded the file. It was a nice custom message box. Pressed OK and it crashed Excel, and as an added bonus my desktop toolbar disappeared. Even when I push the windows icon key on my keyboard nothing happens. I also can't right click on my desktop. I am using Excel 2002 also on XP OS. It was neat though. I liked the computer voice. If you can make a modeless message box that would be really interesting. Maybe we could add skins then. I guess I'll try a reboot. Have some updates that required a reboot anyways. Just thought I'd report my results.

I am sorry that it crashed your Excel session. I did built it & tested it in my machine using XL 2002 on XP (just like yours) and had no problems with the final edition.

I must admit that using Hooks,Subclassing or external functions can be dangerous so the important rule is to save your work before running or editing the code just as a precaution.

VB doesn't really protect you against many runtime errors when using external functions.The debugger just doesn't handle runtime errors as normal so it will be difficult to find the offending part of the code without further crashings !.

Again, sorry about the inconvinience and thanks for reporting back.

As you have read in my PM it crashed for me to. As a final experiment, I pasted the code from the Board into a new workbook, but crashed again.

Your original post prepared us somehow for potential problems, perhaps you can add a line in bold
WARNING: this may crash your application

Anyway, it's by "adventure-experiments" like this that new ideas can be born. A lot of people here love your work :-)

The concept is a great idea (a lot of requests for this kind of thing), and I've never seen it done anywhere else. The code is awesome.

Unfortunately, it produced a very noisy crash on my machine (Dell GX270, Windows XP SP1, Excel 2000 (Build 9.0.3821 SR-1)), but I will try it at home tonight and see how it goes on there.

You certainly don't run code as scary looking as that without making sure everything else is saved and closed!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and I too will try the code on another machine (definitley when the boss is not there - or maybe I should actually leave it till the day I quit : :lol: ) and see if I can figure out what is causing the problem.

Meanwhile, I will edit the original post to show a bold warning message accross the top as Erik kindly suggested.

On a positive note, I would be interested to hear from anybody who has managed to successfully run the code .

I downloaded it last night and tried it all seemed to work ok
i'm using windows xp sp2 and Office 2003 and just tried it on machine in work with (Windows 2000 & Office 2000 )but it crashed and told me that it doesnt support object and highlighted ( .Show in Sub Test )

This is on Windows XP Home SP2, with Excel 2003 (Build 11.5612.5606)
