Convert PST file to Excel (or CSV)

I have a stand-alone PST file that was sent to me by a friend. It is NOT in my Outlook, but just a file in a folder on my PC.
Is there a way to open this file in Excel without purchasing software that I've seen advertised.

Paste the file to the following location.This is for versions older than Windows 10

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Or, one of the two location for Windows 10

• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
• C:\Users\<username>\Roaming\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Thanks, Skyybot, but those links expect the PST file to be in (my) OUTLOOK. As I said, it's NOT in my OUTLOOK. It's a stand-alone PST that was sent to me.

Yes. I believe you have to put the file there so it can be translated and then you can export the data into Excel.

Well, that's likely a problem as I don't want that PST in my OUTLOOK folder. So, I suppose then that there's no other way to convert a free-standing PST to either an Excel or CSV file.
