I did a very stupid thing with a very important personal Excel file. I was backing up my personal flash drive to my external hard drive, was distracted and ended up deleting the entire contents of the flash drive! I hadn’t backed it up in over a year so a lot of data is gone. I was able to recover the files using a recovery software but the two most important ones aren’t opening. I get the following error: Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
The recovered items will open if the file type is Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet but not if the type is Microsoft Excel Worksheet, which is weird because I am on Office 2010.
My question is: how can I convert the Microsoft Excel Worksheet to a Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet without opening the file?
