here's what I'm aiming at:

cell A1 has a drop-down list with LOCK and UNLOCK as possible choices

if A1 = LOCK, then cells B1 to B10 become locked
and if A1 = UNLOCK, then cells B1 to B10 become unlocked

how can I make cells B1 to B10 behave thusly?

thx. for any help!

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
1. Highlight B1:B10
2. Click on Data > Validation
3. Allow: Custom
4. Formula: =$A$1="UNLOCK"
5. Click on the Error Alert tab and put in an error message like "These cells are currently locked and cannot be edited."

Now the cells will only be editable if A1 has the word UNLOCK in it.
