Sometimes excel just baffles me :-(

I have a cell (a1) with a date in it, lets say 04/11/13

in the cell at the side I have a formula to ensure I'm not going mad ... =year(a1) the result is 2013

I want to use conditional formatting to fill all cells where the year is 2013 in red.

I typed in the following

=if(year(a1)=2013) and changed the fill attribute to red

If did't work and I've looked at it, pleaded with it, talked nicely to it but nothing I do seems to work. HELP

Thanks in anticipation

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
Try it with just

=year(a1)=2013

Or you could do, but it's the same result.

=if(year(a1)=2013,True)

You're welcome, problem was you weren't telling it what to do if it was = 2013, e.g. True
