I hate to say that I cannot figure this out... but I cant..

I need a formula for:
If the number in M4 is greater than the number in E4 then the number in M4 should turn red

Thanks for looking

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
You want to place the Conditional Formatting in cell M4, and select the formula option, and use the formula:
Code:
=M4 > E4
and then select your formatting option.

Thanks Joe. If m4 is equal to or less than E4 I need the numbers to stay Black.

You don't need to do anything for that. Conditional Formatting is only applied if the condition is met. If it is not, it leaves it "as-is" (no special formatting is applied, it will leave it alone).

if a number was less than and the number turned red, if the number is changed to a equal to or a greater number will it turn back black ?

It will revert back to whatever it was before the Conditonal Formatting condition was met. All that the Conditonal Formatting does is "overrule" whatever formatting you currently have on the cell.

Try it out, it is pretty easy to verify.
