What i am trying to do is if the cell D6 is blank to have the text "Manually enter amount" appear. If a value is entered no formatting to the cell.

this is what i entered in conditional formatting.
=IF($D$6=""," ","Manually enter amount")

I think i may be being really slow this morn.

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
Hi Wookie,

Why conditional formating?

Put the formula straight in to the cell
=IF(D6="","Manually Enter Amount","")

Hi,
I am not sure a text can be displayed in Conditional formatting.

You can change the cell color. Try this one

Formula is
=ISBLANK($D$6)=TRUE format the cell

How about:

In cell C6 enter :

=IF(D6="","Manually enter amount>>","")

In Cell D6 format to blue color ground,

then, Format | Conditional Formatting | Cell Value Is >> greater than >> enter : 0 | Format pattern choose : No Color | OK
