Conditional formatting rows with shared merged cell

Can you help me, please?
I have a few rows that share a merged cell. When this merged cell is not empty, I want the rows to highlight. Currently, the formula (applied over G5:G72) is "=NOT(ISBLANK($M5))" and then fill. Works for the 11 row, but not on the other four.

Merged cells should be used only for esthetic reasons - never on cells that might be used for any kind of calculation. So my suggestion is: unmerge the cells M11:M15 and fill them with the text Event 6.

If you are just merging cells across rows, you can use the Center Across Selection formatting option instead of Merged Cells.
This will give you the same visual effect without the issues that Merged Cells cause.
