Conditional formatting question on multiple rows

How do I use the conditional formatting option for "Use Formula" option on a per row basis?

In my example I have a status field as Closed, once the status is set to Closed it will Strike Through all the text in the next 5 columns in that row. How do I drag this Conditional Formatting formatting for all of the rows to work independently of its status field?

Right now it seems you have to do one Conditional format rule per row?

Maybe better yet I can use a VB script to strike through the entire row and make the text grey from D2:H2 if C2 = Closed. and replicate that for all the rows

This is the problem I'm having. I can't drag the formatting, or copy, paste then Formatting and get the Conditional formatting rules to move down per row.

I've tried several sample VB scripts to no luck.

I just need the rows striked through in the range D2:H38 based on Cell C2 for each respective row.

Do the following:
- Select range D2:H38
- Then, click Home> Conditional Formatting> New Rule.
- In the New Formatting Rule dialog box, click Use a formula to determine which cells to format.
- Under Format values ​​where this formula is true, type the formula:
=$C2="Closed"
- Click Format.
- Select color
- Click OK until the dialog boxes are closed.

This doesn't work on multiple rows. I don't want to build a set of rules for 50 rows. Removing the $ doesn't seem to make it work. In other forums i read this appears to be an issue with excel. Even deleting the absolute reference, it comes back.

So what do you need?
If you write "Closed" in cell C2 what should happen?
If you write "Closed" in cell C4 what should happen?


If you explain with clear examples, it would be easier to understand and help.

You do not have to create several rules is just one rule and it will work for all rows.

Or upload an Excel file to the cloud, on the sheet explain what you need and I will return the file with the format applied.

You could upload a copy of your file to a free site such www.dropbox.com. Once you do that, mark it for 'Sharing' and you will be given a link to the file that you can post here. If the workbook contains confidential information, you could replace it with generic data.

Here are the steps to repro

Highlight D2:h38
Conditional formatting
New rule. Use formula. =c2="closed"
Ok
Now type closed in C2
Based on your formatting options the range D2:H2 should highlight, text strike through etc
Now every row refers back to c2, not c3,c4,c5 respectively
The text strike through was only working on d2 and when I redid the rule. Then it strikes through the text. Very buggy

Each row is the record of data. C2,c3,c4 etc should control all the other cells in that row
