Conditional formatting query

Hi, I'm looking to apply conditional formatting based on the value of the adjacent cells. So using the example below, I want to highlight the figure showing for Q4 if it is 10% greater than the value in Q3. (However that figure in Q4 is a forecast in which I will be using trend function - not sure whether this makes any difference?). I have tried inputting formatting into the Q4 cell detailing that if it is greater than (C2*1.1) ... but this did not work. Does any one have any ideas ? Would be much appreciated. Hi Wayne, unfortunately that's not working for me. I have gone through conditional formatting/new rule/Use a formula to determine which cells to format ..... Is that where you were suggesting? Also even if that does work, what formula would I use to apply that type of rule to numerous rows in the data? Appreciate your help.

it would depend on the structure of the data
but if the rows are numerous in the same columns - then that formula will work and the
apply to section would cover the numerous rows

perhaps you would put a sample spreadsheet onto a share like dropbox or onedrive - so we can see the issue you are having

Ok here's an example table - I want to apply conditional formatting to that entire column so that it highlights if: B1 is 10% greater than A1, B2 is 10% greater than A2, B3 is 10% greater than A3 etc etc. [TABLE="width: 500"]

select the column you want to highlight and apply the formula
=B1 > A1*1.1

for 2007 or 2010 excel version

Highlight applicable range >>
B1:B10


Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:


=B1 > A1*1.1


Format… [Number, Font, Border, Fill]
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
OK >> OK
