Dear Experts,

beginners question here;

MOD(ROW(),2) does not work on Merged Cells (?)

in my table, cells A1:A2 , A3:A4, A5:A6, etc are merged and thus the mod row function in conditional formatting does not work.
how to overcome this ?

Thanks in advance
Desmond

Hi desmond_

When you say the formula does not work on merged cells, the process of merging two or more cells means one cell has effectively been created.

The formula does work - it is working on the one merged cell.

It appears your intention is for the formula to work as if there were still two cells, notwithstanding there is effectively only one cell.

From not a beginner to a self confessed beginner - there is absolutely no valid reason to merge cells. Merging cells creates more difficulties than benefits. Do whatever you need except merge cells. Under no circumstances do I ever merge cells. At the most, I use the 'Horizontal - Center Across Selection' for two or more columns.

Cheers
