Conditional Formatting for Advancing vs Declining Values

Hi does anyone know how to use conditional formatting to create a two color scheme for values advancing or declining based on the previous cell? I would need the conditional formatting to be on going so a1>b1, b1>c1, c1>d1.....(green) OR a1<b1, b1<c1, c1<d1.....(red). Thanks!
