Thank you in advance for your assistance. I somehow have not yet been able to apply conditional formatting: (a) for only cells with text, and (b) that text meets our criteria.
- Cell A4 contains a Due Date
- Cells A5-A10 contain actual completion dates
- I want to highlight (e.g. fill green) cells A5-A10 if: (a) they contain a date, and (b) the date is before the Due Date in cell A4
My attempts have included the following formula entered as a Formatting Rule in cell A5 (then copied down): =IF(ISTEXT(A5),IF(A5<=A$4,1,0),0)

Again, Thank you, Sven

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
If you have excel dates in the cell then they are numbers not text. What could be in the cells that you want to test if it is a date? You could test if the cell has a number but if the cell could have a non date number in it will return true since it is a number

Try
Code:
=A5<=$A$4
or
=AND(A5<=$A$4,ISNUMBER(A5))
