Conditional Formatting Blank Cells

Hello,

Does anyone know how I could use conditional formatting for highlighting blank cells? Basically, I have cells with a letter X and other cells that are blank. I want to use conditional formatting to highlight the borders red if the cells are empty. For some reason it only seems to work with highlighting the cells. But I only want the borders to be highlighted. It for some reason highlights all the cell borders, even when there is a letter X there. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks so much!

Waterfall charts in Excel?
Office 365 customers have access to Waterfall charts since late 2016. They were added to Excel 2019.
when you select your range and use CF to identify the blank cells are you using something like =A1="" where A1 is the top of your selected range?

Then when you click format and click the tab that says border, make sure when you select your color i.e. Red there are four blue buttons around the box that says TEXT in the middle make sure you select all of them or the box will remain black.
