Hello,

What is the formula to conditionally format other cells based on the selection from a data validation cell? What I want to do is to fill cells with a colour based on a data validation selection.

Then as the second layer of conditional formatting fill cells based on the "start date" (dd/mm/yy) of the selection. I.e the user makes data validation selection and cells auto populate with a colour based on the selection in data validation and start date.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
It does not matter if the value from the cell is hard-coded, the result of a formula, or from data validation, Conditional Formatting runs on whatever value is in the cell at the time (regardless of how that value got there).

Thanks- that puts a stop to that idea!
Why does it put a stop to the idea? What I am telling you is that it will work!
Conditional Formatting will work on values that are hard-coded, updated by formula, or the result of a Data Validation drop-box. It treats them all the same way, and works on them all.
