Hi,

I am on the verge of giving up, but wanted to post my case before doing so, in hopes that some might have attempted the same as me.

1) I am using Excel 2010

2) I want to rank a list of factories (good, neutral, bad) based on each factory name

3) My base is a pivot table.

My target
when factory a,b,c is displayed, show backgound = green
when factory d,e,f is displayed, show background = orange
when factory g,h,i is displayed, show background = red

My trouble (I think)
1) It's a pivot table, I cannot go to each cell and type in a formula (which I would do in normal circumstances, and it would work okay)

2) I cannot find out how to setup the conditional formatting in excel 2010, based on my pivot. I am tring to use the conditional formatting, then select the option showing "based on specific text" which however works regardless of I put in

a,b,c
"a","b","c"
'a','b','c'

as the text qualifiers.

If any one have ANY IDEA / SUGGESTION I would welcome it with open arms.

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Welcome to the board!

When you say company a,b,c is selected, is that one company as in Company ABC, or 3 separate companies as in Company A, Company B, and Company C?

When you make the selections for the different companies, what area are they in within the pivot table (report filter, rows, columns)?

Hi Clay, many thanks for posting a reply.

It would be in following scenario, e.g. production schedule

factory a + factory b + factory c = did not yet submit audit = red alert
factory d + factory e + factory f = did submit = green / go-ahead

I have in total 4 different statuses to be considered, where for each status there will be a selection of multiple factories.

There is a screenshot I'd like to share, but not sure if I can do it by posting it on this forum, otherwise I can email you ?
