Hi!

This board looks like the right place for my Excel problem which is for you experts, I think, no problem at least...

So my problem:

I have a list of Zip-Codes which should be linked with the Town name. For that I have seperate two rows which consists of in every line two Zip-Codes which illustrate the range where the Zip-Code has to match between... Every line is linked with a town name.

Now I want that every Zip-Code is linked with the rigth Town Name.

It would be very nice if you can help me, because it's one of my typical problems which I have often to solve by using Excel!

Thank you very much for every constructive answer!

Greetings

Jan

Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
Could you place an example of the layout of the sheet than your problem will be clearer to me and perhaps then I can solve your problem

Well you can start bij taking a substring of the area code since the letters in the area code do not make a difference for the town you are in.

Hence you can use the area codes as number..

By the way if you have a list of coutries and area codes, try using a drop down list with 2 columns or the vlookup function.

Yes, here in the States = 99999-0000; Canada, alternating Alpha/Numeric. If this is a States problem, then VLOOKUP w/ TRUE as the 4th arg. should wourk, if the ZIPs are consecutive and only the highest ZIP is associated with the town. That approach may work in a 999 XX case, as well, depending on the development of the codes.
