Compaibility mode Excel 2010 back to 2003

I would like to create a Pivot Table in excel 2010, and then send to users who are on excel 2003, and for those users to at least have the 2003 pivot functionality

I have tried saving as "excel 97 to 2003", but this does not help as the compatibility check says the pivot won't be useable.

I have aso tried starting the workbook in "excel 97 to 2003", (saving empty), then building the pivot and then sending but the pivot still does not have any funtctionality whatsoever.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Start a new workbook and save it as Excel 97-2003. Then close and reopen it, so that you are in Compatibility Mode. Then create your pivot table.
