Thanks for taking the time to read. I have a list of surnames in Column A and first names in column B and I need to combine the two into one cell which I can easily do by joining strings. However I also need the format changed with characters adding so:

from this: Smith John

to his: Smith, John (UK)

Most grateful for any ideas.

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Are you using formulas to combine the cells? How do you decide what characters to add for each name?

Using the "&", not formula. The adding of a , followed by space and (UK) at the end of the name will be the same characters for every record.

How about
=A2&", "&B2&" (UK)"

Place this formula in C1 and copy it down: =A1&", "&B1&" (UK)"
