Columns Won't narrow?

When I select the entire sheet and double click on the columns they won't shrink to the minimum size for the data in each column? Like below.

The column should be a lot more narrow? Actually it looks like it should be on here, but on the sheet it is twice the size?!

Like I say it looks fine on here, but on the actual sheet the column is twice the width?

where is the info coming from? maybe worth putting a column next to it and put formula = len(cell to left) and see what results you get
