I have excel 2016. When I see an excel file in windows file manager, and click on it,
It will open excel, but not the file. I then have to do a file open and fined the file
to open.
I know this is a real simple one, How do I set up in excel 2016 to where I double click on
an excel file, it opens up "in excel"

Thansk James.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Re: clickiing on elcel file, opens exel, but not file cllcked on

I had already done all of the above:
1)Now go to Advanced tab and scroll down to bottom. You'll find "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" option present in General section.
2) Now select "Repair" option and click on "Continue" button. (I did quick repair)

None of these worked....so I went back to step 2, and did the online repair....I think this resolved it.

Microsoft has a configuration analyse tool (MSCAT) if you still have issues

I like the MCAT...that goes really deep. THANKS! Glad I don't have an issue requiring this. I gives too much info really, but, this is better than not enough. Thanks for showing this to me, its showing I have many issues,(non related to this post), but in my old age, I'm leery of fixing whats not broken. Word, excel, outlook, etc. have all worked fine, with exception of this small file open issue. I may pick some of the bigger things MCAT pointed out and fix these.
