circular referencing?

i have a figure in a cell, in the next cell to it i type a new number, i want the second cell to show the result of subtracting the first cell from the second cell, iwant the result to display in the second cell, iwant the reference to always be the previous cell whatever its address. i am a novice, be gentle with me.
