Check Out SharePoint Spreadsheets

I can load spreadsheets that are stored on SharePoint sites from VBA code within Excel. But now, all of a sudden, there is a yellow "Check Out" button that also says, "To modify this server workbook, you must check it out." Does anyone know how to get download the file "checked out"? Thanks.

Does this code check the workbook out of sharepoint? where does the checkedout copy get stored?
