Chart resizing after deleting pivot table

I have a hoizontal bar chart that was created from a pivot table and it displays fine. But, when I delete the tab containing the pivot table (to reduce file size) that the chart was created from the chart changes. Before deleting the tab all of the labels for the data on the vertical axis are displayed. After deleting the pivot tab only every other label is displayed. I can correct it by changing the font size of the labels, but I have to go to a really small font (6pts) where as before the tab was deleted the font was 10 pts. I know this is somewhat a function of how many items are on the chart, but I would expect the same behavior whether the underlying data was deleted or not. My only guess is that when I delete the pivot table the chart is automatically converted to a non-pivot chart and somehow gets replotted. Any suggestions for how to keep the original formatting would be appreciated.
