Chart - Reducing Dataset, or sampling

Can Excel do this?
Simply just a line chart, but rather than taking all 1000 lines of my spread sheet, can the Chart just take a sample, every 10th or so?

And, why is it that this is so hard to solve. Ive been lookin all over!
What do people working with large data sets do when charting? I mean, it seems like a basic minimum for a chart to be able to handle this...

Thanks for any input!

Well, not that hard. It depends on your requirements.

A very simple solution is:
- extract the data you want into a table
- use it as the source data for your chart.
