Hi,

I have a chart that shows the cumulative value of 5 variables on a monthly basis. I would like to place the total of the 5 variables on the top of each bar as a label, but am unsure how to do this.

If I select the label option in chart options, it shows the individual values of each of the variables, but I can't work out how to show the sum of them (only)

e.g. for November,
x1 = 6
x2 = 5
x3 = 4
x4 = 3
x5 = 1

So these are stacked on top of each other with x1 at the bottom up to x5 and on the top of this bar, I'd like to show only the sum of the x values as 19

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jack

Excel Facts

Copy PDF to Excel
Select data in PDF. Paste to Microsoft Word. Copy from Word and paste to Excel.
Here's one way.

Set up a data series that refers to the total values.
You might need to set up formulas in your data table, to calculate the totals.
Add a series to your chart that refers to this data.
Change the chart type, just for this single series, to line.
Set the format of the series so that chart labels are shown.
Then change the format of the series so that it has no line colour, and no symbol - it will become completely invisible, except for the floating value label.
