Chart legend in columns, not rows

I have a chart with eight columns, labeled by the legend below them. Excel defaults to listing these elements left to right, and then down, thus:
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8

I think it's more user friendly for the legend to display columns: thus:
1 5
2
6
3
7
4
8

Is that possible?

Thanks -- Blackie

Control Word Wrap
Press Alt+Enter to move to a new row in a cell. Lets you control where the words wrap.
My post didn't display as I hoped, but I was hoping to show two columns, with the left column containing 1 2 3 4 and the right column 5 6 7 8.
